Two gaps have opened in your cyber security armor between what your tools can see in real time and what you need to answer months later. Mind the agent gap: An AI agent inherits its launcher's permissions, so nothing it does looks anomalous. It is a verified fact that organizations have had agents exceed those permissions; It is also true that no audit trail of activity was kept. Endpoint vendors analyze the runtime graph, but it carries no data classification information and is available for only 7 days. You can see what an agent did this week, not which of 400 files it touched had sensitive information. Next month, you see nothing at all. Mind the age gap: A SIEM is built for real-time defense: faster detection, streaming rules, and ingestion that scales. Meeting those objectives economically means the hot index cannot grow without performance impacts, so the popular platforms purge indexed data on a 90- or 180- day cycle. The intrusions that matt er now outlive that window. BRICKSTORM averaged 393 days in victim environments before discovery, and SUNBURST persisted for more than fourteen months. Google’ s own BRICKSTORM guidance asks for a minimum of 400 days of retained syslog.
