If you're a Splunk admin/architect, you know how that managing your indexes is important and time consuming. Managing indexes becomes even more complicated when your indexer storage is split between flash and disk storage types. How do you properly create indexes so that your hot buckets roll to warm, warm to cold, and cold to frozen at the right times to make use of all of that storage? All of those settings are in indexes.conf and are hard to configure. The Index Generator app helps Splunk admins and architects quickly and easily create index stanzas for new indexes and recalculate settings for old indexes that aren't properly moving their buckets around.
