Upgrade universal forwarder version (nix)

Splunk AppInspect Passed
Admins: Please read about Splunk Enterprise 8.0 and the Python 2.7 end-of-life changes and impact on apps and upgradeshere.
App for upgrading Universal Forwarders (on Linux) to a newer version. App can be distributed from a Deployment Server. Tested on RHEL7.

The README contains deployment instructions. Unpack the app on your Deployment Server. You must first download the desired UF tgz package from splunk.com to the static/ folder. Then, modify the variables in bin/upgrade-wrapper.sh to reflect the filename/version of the UF package.

After deployment, the scripted input will execute on startup. It will compare the app's tgz version to the already-installed version. If upgrade is needed, it will issue a splunk stop command, unpack the tgz, and issue a splunk start. The script zeroes out the tgz file afterwards to conserve storage.

Tested on RHEL7.
