Splunk App for New Relic

Overview
Details
The Splunk App for New Relic works together with the Splunk Add-on for New Relic and provides a set of dashboards and saved searches to visualize New Relic data in splunk. This app provides separate dashboards for Application Overview, Key Transactions, Mobile Applications, Policy Violations and New Relic Insights data coming from New Relic's REST APIs. This app allows you to apply predictive analytics to your APM data and correlate New Relic data with all of your other Splunk data (wire data, logs, server data, infrastructure data, etc.) in Splunk.

Splunk App & Add-on for New Relic

What's New

version 2.0.0

  • Updated to reflect changes in the 2.0.0 version of the New Relic Add-On.

version 1.6.1

  • Added deep link URLs to lists in dashboards. Lists will now launch New Relic for the given application, transaction or alert with the time context of your current Splunk dashboard.
  • Updated Insights dashboard to match the default NRQL query in the Splunk Add-on for New Relic.

version 1.6.0

  • Account Summary Inputs
    • Pagination Support for the Account Summary Data Inputs
    • Event separation by type (application, key_transaction, etc.)
  • Single API Call Inputs
    • Bug Fix for Single API Calls with parameters
  • Dashboards and Reports
    • Updated to reflect new JSON for individual events

Note: This App will work in earlier versions of Splunk (prior to 6.4) however, some of the visualizations and/or color coding may not render as those were added in the 6.4 release of core Splunk.

Installation

The installation consists of installing both the Splunk Add-on for New Relic and the Splunk App for New Relic. The Add-on is responsible for executing the rest calls and collecting the data from New Relic. The App provides the dashboards and saved searches. To install, navigate to Apps --> Manage Apps and select the “Install app from File” button. Specify the location of the file you downloaded and install.

Configuration

Configure a new New Relic Account Summary input in the Splunk Add-on for New Relic for each New Relic account.
The input will gather data for your applications, key transaction, mobile applications and alert policy violations.

Searching

Once the Splunk Add-on for New Relic is installed and configured you can use the included dashboards to view the data or execute your own searches using:

sourcetype="newrelic:*"

Note: If your data is stored in an index that is not searched by default for your Splunk user, you will need to add the specific index to the Selected indexes in Access controls -> Roles -> [ROLE NAME]
