Puppet is IT automation software that helps system administrators manage infrastructure throughout its lifecycle, from provisioning and configuration to orchestration and reporting.
The app consists of 4 different dashboards with the first dashboard shows a rough overview of the puppet environment. With the second dashboard under the name "puppet agent" you can analyze the individual systems and check it for errors in modules etc. On the third Dashboard, you can monitor the different modules created in Puppet and check it also for errors, etc. On the last dashboard are still the reports of all the systems listed up in a table. This show which systems have reported an error, update, restart from a service etc.
So that the app works, the data from Puppet must be correct in Splunk. In my dashboards and searches, I search in all indexes. In addition, I am looking for the keyword puppet-agent. The data which I evaluate are from the Puppet clients and not from the Puppet master.
By default they log the entire output of a puppetrun in /var/adm/messages (Unix). If you have this data correctly in Splunk, the app should work without problems.
Splunk's App Certification program uses a specific set of criteria to evaluate the level of quality, usability and security your app offers to its users. In addition, we evaluate the documentation and support you offer to your app's users.
