Monitoring macOS brings your Apple Silicon Macs into Splunk: build and CI fleets, Macs that host virtual machines, and the laptops IT looks after. Macs are often the one part of an estate that Splunk cannot see. A build farm slows down and nobody can tell whether it is thermals, memory pressure, a full disk or one runaway process. A laptop fleet drifts out of policy, with FileVault off, updates pending or the firewall disabled, and the first sign is an audit. The unified log holds the answers, but it is too large to forward as it is, and most of it is noise. Monitoring macOS shows what Collectord forwards from each Mac. Collectord runs as a LaunchDaemon and sends hardware, power, process and security stats to a Splunk metrics index, and the unified log, crash reports, launchd services, logins and setting changes to an events index. Log packs choose what to forward from the unified log, and a rate cap and a noise sampler keep its volume in check. The dashboards start from a Fleet Overview that says which Macs need attention and why: the ones that went silent, run hot, have FileVault off, updates pending or a volume nearly full. From there they drill down to hardware, processes, virtual machines, Xcode and CI, crashes and panics, updates and posture, compliance results, security events and the connections each application makes. Label each group of Macs, such as ci, build-farm or laptops, and every dashboard and alert filters by it. Alerts come from an Alert Catalog of 42 templates, written for Splunk admins, the platform team, security and application teams. Each team picks the alerts it needs and creates them as its own saved searches, scoped to its own Macs. Install one signed, notarized package on each Mac by hand, with Homebrew, or through your MDM with a configuration profile. Collectord needs no Full Disk Access and macOS asks the user nothing. It never reads the app in front, per-app usage time, Wi-Fi network names or location, and every source that names people or programs has its own switch. The app requires Collectord and a license key from Outcold Solutions. Evaluation and developer keys are free: https://www.outcoldsolutions.com/docs/monitoring-macos/
