REST Interface

Creates a new REST interface to ingest data into Splunk, with added capabilities:

- Authentication via User/Pass or User Tokens (Settings -> Tokens)
- Returns an unique ID back to the requester

Copy ta_rest_interface_settings.conf from default to local and change the variables inside.

Creates a new REST interface to ingest data into Splunk, with added capabilities:

  • Authentication via User/Pass or User Tokens (Settings -> Tokens)
  • Returns an unique ID back to the requester

This app uses the mangement port for requests (default 8089) and then forwards the data to a HEC interface (defined in ta_rest_interface_settings.conf) the results of the HEC call, will then be returned to the requester, with an additional field "splunkRestId". which is a unique ID also added to the event sent to Splunk.
If the data is JSON/XML it will be added to the object, else just added as a key-value field.

Authentication is user/pass or user-token (settings -> tokens), because its not possible to "hook" into the normal HEC functionality, and therefore not able to get and use HEC Tokens.

- /services/rest-event
- /services/rest-raw

For data format examples, see: https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/latest/Data/FormateventsforHTTPEventCollector

My examples:

curl -u "user:pass" "https://localhost:8089/services/rest-event" --data-urlencode '{"index" : "main", "sourcetype": "test", "event" : {"Name" : "Trifork!"}}'

Response: {"text":"Success","code":0,"splunkRestId":"939b9ca43b"}
