Vade for M365 Add-On for Splunk

Overview
Details
The Vade for M365 Add-On for Splunk allows Vade partners and customers to integrate Vade for M365 email logs with Splunk without the need for custom software development. The logs are normalized using the Splunk Common Information Model (CIM) for email which allow users to leverage pre-existing Splunk capabilities (e.g., dashboards, reports) compatible with the Email data model.

Splunk prerequisites

  • Splunk Enterprise 8.x
  • Splunk Common Information Model (CIM) add-on 4.1.0 or above

Vade for M365 prerequisites

  • Threat Intel & Investigation option for Vade for M365
  • Valid Vade for M365 API credentials

Installation

  1. In [Apps > Manage Apps], click the button “Install app from file”
  2. Browse to upload the add-on archive (.tar.gz file) to Splunk

Configuration

  1. In [Settings > Data > Data inputs], find the “Vade Modular Input” in the list of Local Inputs and click “+ Add new”
  2. In the form that appears, fill in the required information. Remember to fill the field Interval if you want Vade data to be continously sent to your Splunk platform.

After clicking the button Next, the provided information will be checked and a test request will be made on Vade API to validate the credentials. The data input creation will abort if this test fails.

Verification

In [Apps > Search & Reporting], enter the following search expression:

sourcetype=”vade_tii”

This should return a list of events that were collected by the module. Each event data contains the json that was provided by the Vade API.

CIM compatibility

The data collected via this add-on is compatible with the Email data model of Splunk’s Common Information Model (CIM)
