Jira Issues Collector Client

About

The Jira Issues Collector Client hosts the Javascript code and html button for a Jira Issue Collector popup UI in a Splunk Enterprise dashboard.

Usage

The Jira Issues Collector Client dashboard provides a host for the Javascript code and html button for a Jira Issue Collector popup user interface (UI). A KVStore collection is used to store the configuration (i.e. the button title, button label, and url to Jira Issue Collector javascipt code for the popup UI).

Configuration needed after initial installation

The app's configuration is stored in the jira_icc_collection_lookup KVStore collection, and no configuration is included with the initial app installation.

Security

  • Like any app, the level of security has a dependence on the environment used to host the app. So, it is suggested that the dependenices be updated periodically with their respective security patches/fixes.
  • Jira Issue Collector popup UI is created by the Jira Issue Collector Javascript code; so refer to the Jira documentation for info about data input validation for the popup UI.
  • No data input validation is done for the app's configuration; so it is recommended that write access to the jira_icc_collection_lookup KVStore collection be limited to Splunk admins.
  • If you have suggestions to improve the security of the app, please contact support.

Dependencies

  • The Jira Issues Collector Client app was developed on a Linux OS VM (CentOS) with a Splunk Dev environment. Due to limited resources, no development/testing at all was done against the Splunk Windows OS environment, but it is expected to work with Windows OS.
  • The Jira Issue Collector Javascipt code requires JQuery which is included with a Splunk Enterprise installation.
  • The Chrome web browser was used to develop the Jira Issues Collector Client. No testing/development was done with other web browsers.

Limitations and/or Known Issues

  • Only 1 Jira Issues Collector can be configured at this time; so only the first record that is returned by a search of the KVStore configuration is rendered on the dashboard.
  • This app only supports the Jira Issue Collector on the included dashboard. However in the future, it may be that a custom Splunk Enterprise visualization object could be developed to allow a Jira Issue Collector be added to any dashboard.
