Cross-Cloud Splunk Platform Indexes Migration

Admins: Please read about Splunk Enterprise 8.0 and the Python 2.7 end-of-life changes and impact on apps and upgradeshere.
Solution allows company to migrate a pre-selected set of indexes and buckets on multiple Splunk servers or clusters in one or more geographical regions simultaneously. The migration duration is configurable through the set of options for parallelization, dynamic prioritizing and bandwidth limitation of transfer channels.

The Splunk app, which comes with the solution, is deployed on the same or separate Splunk instance to track the progress of the overall Splunk indexes migration from one data center/cloud to another. The app allows migration execution to see estimates and quickly detect and troubleshoot potential issues.

  • Supports single, distributed & clustered Splunk migration

  • Supports single or multiple regions

  • Creates minimal or zero downtime for Splunk depending on the requirements

  • Provides full transparency of the overall migration

  • Automates data migration completely with custom scripts

  • Allows for several approaches to the migration (rsync, Splunk native, etc.)

  • Enables encryption of data in transit

  • Provides three phases of data transfer validation (configurable) and retry mechanisms

  • Tracks the migration progress in the Splunk Migration Status Dashboard with a breakdown by phase status and estimates

  • Can be transferred over any channel (VPN/interconnect/public)

  • Parallelizes migration processes on cluster & indexer levels

  • Enables adjustable migration process scheduling, prioritization and bandwidth control

  • Makes migration configurable for single or multiple indexers and buckets simultaneously

  • Allows for safe rollback

  • Control & Transparency - Full control of all migration steps (prioritization, throttling & tracking)

  • Minimal or Zero Downtime - Depending on requirements, the solution allows for minimal or even zero downtime

  • Migration Duration - Configurable with bandwidth throttling, parallelization and priorities

Additional Services available for Cross-Cloud Splunk Platform Indexes Migration

  • Deployment

Enables installation and deployment of the solution in customer environments

  • Splunk Cluster Setup in Destination Cloud

Allows for full deployment of Splunk clusters in destination cloud/data center

  • Customization

Parameterization based on requirements (waves, schedule, parallelization, etc.)

  • Feature Enhancement

Development of extra features for migration based on customer requirements

  • Full Migration Cycle

Initiation, tracking and control, and issue resolving during the migration cycle

  • Support

Support of customer migration team on any level

  • What migration approaches do you offer?

We offer the following migration approaches:
    Rsync-based approach (market-ready accelerator)
Splunk migration through native cluster mechanisms
Any other approach based on customer requirements

  • What cluster topologies are supported?

Single, distributed or clustered Splunk environments Single and multiple geographical regions Hybrid deployments (clustered and non-clustered, single-site and multi-site, etc.)

  • Is it possible to migrate only part of data?

Yes. Customization allows you to migrate certain indexers, indexes and bucket types (warm/cord).

  • How zero downtime is achievable?

Based on customization and approach, it is possible to have zero downtime for both source and destination clusters during the migration from ingestion and searching perspectives.

  • How is searching performance affected during the migration?

It is possible to have business and non-business hour schedules with process prioritization and bandwidth limitations. Thus, based on preliminary tests and proper planning, it can be configured not to block the users during the migration.

  • How secure is your solution?

The solutions uses encrypted transfer channels with minimal network ports required.

AppInspect Tooling
