Overview
Details
Cloud Inspector reveals web access footprints based on logs from Firewalls and Web Gateways. It helps administrators keep up-to-minutes intelligence about web applications being accessed by internal users.

This app ingests CIM-compliant logs. Along with its unique cloud reputation service, administrators now are able to understand:
1. The top risky web applications being accessed.
2. The endpoints (users or devices) generate the most access records.
3. Geographic locations of web applications being accessed.
4. Activity comparison with previous periods.

Supported CIM-compliant logs:
This app extracts web sites from site, url or dest field of Common Information Model (CIM) Web data model. The priority is site > url > dest. The following CIM-compliant products(sourcetype) have been verified.
1. Palo Alto (pan:threat)
2. Fortinet FortiGate (fgt_utm)
3. Forcepoint Web Security (websense:cg:kv)

REQUIREMENTS


  • Splunk Enterprise version 8.0, 7.3, 7.2, 7.1, 7.0.
  • CIM 4.x compliant data must be presented for analysis purpose.
  • Windows x64 and Linux x64 platform.

ENVIRONMENT SETTING


  • This app is intended to be installed on the Search Head.
  • This app is NOT to be installed on the Indexers.
  • This app is NOT to be installed on the Forwarders.
  • For Search Head Cluster, distribute this app with Deployer.

INSTALLATION


  • This app can be installed from within Splunk. Optionally, you can download it first and install through "Manage Apps" on UI.
  • Restart Splunk.

CONFIGURATION & TROUBLESHOOTING


On the first use, please provide your name and email address.

If live data is not shown on the dashboard, please follow the steps to troubleshoot.
1. Check network connectivity
This app needs to query backend servers on the Internet. Configure a proxy on the Configuration page if direct access to the Internet is not allowed.
2. Check if service reputation data has been initialized
Go to Cloud Inspector Dashboard, check if there's a warning on top of the page says "Service reputation data is being initialized." This usually happens when the app is just installed, the initialization hasn't been finished yet. You can load demo data for a try and go back to live data later.
3. Check if CIM Web data model-compliant data is in Splunk.
Navigate to Cloud Inspector -> Search page, query:
tag=web OR tag=proxy AND (site=* OR url=* OR dest=*) | eval "Web sites"=coalesce(site,url,dest) | stats count by "Web sites"
There should be results listed. If not, check access permission of your index data. And at least one of the CIM field (site, url, dest) have value.
4. If the issue persists, please contact support.
