Pipe Splunk Events to Dropbox

This is a custom search command that copies events input to it to a file in Dropbox. Optional features include compressing the file and naming it based on a time string.

Run to create a Splunk package. Install it to your Splunk server like any other app (through the GUI or by copying to etc/apps).

  • Create a Dropbox API token through the Dropbox site.
  • Craft the Splunk search whose results you want to save.
  • Add the | dropbox command to the end of your search, filling in the parameters as follows:
    • filename: The destination path for the file in Dropbox. Include a leading slash and a file extension. This field accepts strptime templates for naming based on the time of the first event.
    • dropboxkey: API Access Token for Dropbox.
    • compress (optional, default false): Boolean whether or not to gzip the destination file.
    • fieldname (optional, default _raw): Field whose contents should be saved. Field should be defined for all events/table rows. The default, _raw, saves the entirety of each event piped into it but obviously isn't applicable to tables.

The following libraries are bundled with this script:
* Splunk SDK
* Requests
