Compuware Abend-AID Analytics

Admins: Please read about Splunk Enterprise 8.0 and the Python 2.7 end-of-life changes and impact on apps and upgradeshere.
In complex IBM mainframe enterprise environments, correlations between application behaviors and underlying infrastructure can be both subtle and critical. What appear to be platform issues may turn out to be software faults—and vice versa. The Compuware Abend-AID Analytics dashboard also helps IT staff get richer, more complete insight into service delivery issues.

Abend-AID is Compuware’s mainframe application failure resolution and application fault management solution.

When an application fails, developers must manually cross-reference pages of recorded application memory information with pages of application code to understand why the failure occurred.

Application fault management with Abend-AID reduces this tedious and time-consuming task, enabling mainframe application development personnel to tackle higher-priority work assignments.

This Abend-AID Analytics app, one installed, requires the following steps/components to be used properly:
- Please refer to the readme file in the Abend-AID Analytcs Splunk App for instructions on configuring the app.
- Abend-AID must be installed with the optional WRITE_SMF parameter set to yes. Please refer to the Abend-AID Installation and Customization Guide, section entitled Optional Parameters, for additional information.
- Syncsort Ironstream (http://www.syncsort.com) must be installed, with the optional free connector to read the Abend-AID SMF records. If you are not a Syncsort Ironstream customer, get the Ironstream Starter Edition for free: http://sync.st/1Wbu7Qm.

The default SMF record type produced by Abend-AID, read by Ironstream, and looked for by the Abend-AID Analytics app is 205. The default index name for Splunk is "abendaid". While these can be changed, the configurations for all three components then also need to be changed, where referenced. We recommend using the default initially if at all possible.
