Installation steps

To install and configure this app on your supported platform, follow these steps:

  1. In your Splunk Enterprise web interface, click on App(s) -> Manage Apps
  2. Click on Install app from file
  3. Select the file you downloaded, Click Upload, optionally selecting Upgrade app if you are upgrading from an earlier version. Restart Splunk if required
Deploy to single server instance

Follow these steps to install the app in a single server instance of Splunk Enterprise:

  1. In your Splunk Enterprise web interface, click on App(s) -> Manage Apps
  2. Click on Install app from file
  3. Select the file you downloaded, Click Upload, optionally selecting Upgrade app if you are upgrading from an earlier version. Restart Splunk if required
Deploy to distributed deployment

Install to search head

  1. In your Splunk Enterprise web interface, click on App(s) -> Manage Apps
  2. Click on Install app from file

Install to indexers

  1. In your Splunk Enterprise web interface, click on App(s) -> Manage Apps

Install to forwarders

This app must be installed on a Splunk Universal Forwarder running on a Microsoft Windows host with access to the Forefront TMG w3c files.

  1. Copy TA-Microsoft_Forefront_TMG to /opt/splunk/etc/deployment-apps/ on your Deployment Server
  2. Copy /opt/splunk/etc/deployment-apps/TA-Microsoft_Forefront_TMG/default/inputs.conf to /opt/splunk/etc/deployment-apps/TA-Microsoft_Forefront_TMG/local/inputs.conf
  3. Uncomment the monitor stanzas and change the paths in /opt/splunk/etc/deployment-apps/TA-Microsoft_Forefront_TMG/local/inputs.conf to point to the log files produced by Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway.
  4. Use Forwarder Management in the Splunk Web Interface to deploy the app to your Splunk Universal Forwarder in order to start consuming the log files.

You may need to tune the logging parameters of your Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway server. For instructions on this please consult the official product documentation.
